I slept on this one...read it last night.

Little fart got himself stuck in there. Either it is going to move on its own so that you can get it out easier or you will be buying another one which looks just like it.

Give him the finger and move on. lol

Couple possibilities I see here:
1. get 1 of those flexible brushes & try to coax him out.
2. Cut a hole in the overflow & get him out but buy the replacement first
3. See Becky's comment about buying one that looks just like it.
4 Call local fire department - they're good at getting cats out of trees, dogs out of sewer pipes, whatever.

I think if I increse the flow through the box, it may get sucked out. He is now in the part that hangs on the other side of the tank. So, I took the screen and its not covering the drain pipe.

Hmmmm.....call the local fire department...I may just have to try that!

I am all for leaving a doofy cat in the tree. No need to call the authorities for that.
Stand over that box, and make sure you let him know he is replaceable! lol

Shut your pumps off. Syphon or pump most of the water from your overflow and get in there and get him. By the way...he wont bite you

Uh Huh! More work! It never, never, never stops!

well, right now I cant even get him with tweezers. He is really jammed in there. He still wiggles around so I know he can move. I guess there was some algae that collected in there and now he has a good food source. I am not too concerned with it, he'll be fine.....I hope.

i am with becky....i would set aside $12 and be ready to get yourself another starfish...i am of the opinion that if it is smart enough to get in, it SHOULD be smart enough to get out...IF NOT...tough luck. although, i had a dotty that just kept jumping into my return, must of did it at least 4 times, even with screening put over the filter area to prevent this..DONT ASK ME HOW HE DID IT...fish should be on AMERICA'S CRAZIEST CHASES!!! i really shouldnt talk cuz everyday i would come home and check the return and there he would be looking up at me like..HEY, WHATS NEW? i would always try to get him out though..i guess i am a sucker for fish..most of the time just by turning off the pump and letting the water level rise he would just jump back over the wall like a dog jumping thru hoops. good luck with your starfish, both of mine never venture passed the back wall..i need to take a pick of my starfish to find out what it is...i have never seen one like it before in any store...its probably nothing special but for something i bought that was damaged with only 3 full legs and survived my crummy care taking efforts, to come back with all its legs and look perfect must mean its pretty tough. ok, enough for me..i am wandering everywhere in my thoughts.

He calls..."Is this Elliott? We'll be there in a minute" They don't even have flashing lights when they pull up anymore, they know the routine. It takes them about 45 minutes to get there and they are located across the street. Someone needed to do a Starbucks run.

I can see the FD showing up and there is Elliott with his hand stuck in the overflow box. Not as good as the time he got his hand caught in the vending machine...or the pringles cannister. lol

Well, When I decided to get a sump running, my tank was more than a year old and I didnt want to disturb everything by puting it in a bucket.

I can assure you Im not going to call the FD and my mother has only called them once because the oven caught on fire.

My neighbor however, decided to mix gasoline and liquid nails on a tarp right next to the pilot light of the furnace. Yeah, needless to say there was a lot of smoke coming from the house, so my friends mother called the FD and they came and put the fire out. The house didnt actually catch on fire, just the tarp.

They guy was in his basement with a garden hose trying to put it out. The fireman had to carry him out of the house because he was refusing to get out.

Hillbillies? We are talking Jersey here! I'm kidding. The Jersey accent is one of my personal favs.
Do you have a Jersey accent Elliott? I was in a restarant in Jersey once sitting around listening to everyone talk. Good stuff! Midwesterners can have accents, especially if they live out in the middle of nowhere, but it isn't the Jersey accent. A good Jersey accent can make a crazy scenario, like you getting your hand trapped in the overflow even funnier.

Steven- it is a red brittle.

No hillbillies here.

I dont think I have an accent but I am sure I do. Like take Trenton for example. We NJians dont pernopunce the second T. So we pernounce it like Trenin, but there is no emphises on the first N. I forget the name of it but there is a certain name for that. And Newark would be Nork. I think the accent is mostly little things like that. just like the typical hillbilly would say YEEEEEEHAW! look at them here 'coons!

My hand wont even fit in the overflow box. lol...not that Ive tried.

that sucks man... I was thinking it would be possible for something to crawl up in there so I stuck this little peice of mesh screen in there. big enough holes for particulates to get thru but small enough to keep critters in the tank and out of the sump.
