Default upside down jellyfish

anyone ever see a LFS with upside down jellyfish for sale? i never knew you could buy jellyfish and keep them in a tank. my LFS had a few of them in a tank for sale. at first i didnt see what they were called and was like..dude, are these jellyfish and why are they upside down...then he pointed out the label. looked cool as heck. of course he said someone had already purchased 1 and ended up bringing it back because it was stinging his cleaner shrimp. guess jellyfish have a different type of sting than an anenome. my cleaner shrimp used to love to hang out in my anenome.

needed to repost...i just read that upside down jellyfish are completely reef safe and wont harm fish or invertebrates. they just like to swim along the bottom, flip upside to expose their tentacles to the light and like the usual phyto juice. dont know what my LFS guy was talking bout.

I was wanting a jellyfish but went into sticker shock when I seen the cost of the tanks they said you needed to raise them.
Midwater Systems Jelliquarium Moon Jellyfish Tank Kreisel Aquarium Ephyra Tanks Medusa Mangrove Jellies
I will have to do some research on the one you are talking about maybe I can have one.

PS I like the new avatar.

I have looked into these myself, from what I understand they are fairly reef safe and not that difficult to keep. But you would want a stable established tank.

I would love to know more about these creatures does anyone have one?? Do they need the special tank? They need special lighting..yes, but can they go into the normal, everyday tank?

I also came across one at my lfs. I was very interested in the creature, but figured it was difficult to care for.

what prices has everyone seen them at? the LFS i saw them at was selling them for $19.99, and they tend to sell stuff on the higher priced side. i know its not the tank you would keep them in but they had them in a small 3 gallon mini nano tank for selling purposes. they are fairly new to the saltwater deal, maybe a year so they probably didnt want to introduce them into a bigger tank with fish in them.

i would of gotten one if my wife hadnt been with me and it wouldnt have stuck out like a sore thumb in the fishtank and she would see it. she would club me over the head for buying more stuff. i am going into SALTWATER FISH WITHDRAWALS. being on a budget is hard when you own a saltwater tank.

ps...anyone heard anthing on the $150 contest?

I think 19.99 is proly an ok price for one. reefscavengers sells them for 8.99 but after shipping i would think it would end up being more unless you had a large order.

Plus they do ship them but Im not sure I would want one to be shipped, they can not remain stationary like a fish can and I would be consernd about the shape they would be in on arrival.

There is a little info on them on that first reply I made, I will be investigating more because I would really like to have one of these in my 55 when its done.

If you decide to buy it show us pics! lol

i wish i wish i wish i could get one. i just got back from the LFS, same 3 jellyfish are floating around. like i said though...unless i can make a deal with the jellyfish to stay out of my wife's site whenever she is in the living room, guess i'll just have to enjoy them at the store.
