Default Look how much he has grown! (And the new baby pics)

Alright guys! My two other feathers didn't make it, but apparently SOMETHING is right for this guy. I put some pictures below--I am not looking at the crown size, but look at how much he is lengthening (is that a word) his tube!! He is building onto it everyday! And... a little baby too. It's not very clear, but it's the last pic. Enjoy!!

(In the pics, look at the top of the tube, the white part, look at that baby grow!)

Use the little "peak" in the pink part near the top of the tube to compare how much the white is growing!

Just 3 days laters! Jan 17, 2008

This is the new baby I have found, You can see him wedged between the rock, and Coco tube about half way down the picture.

No no--- Don't look at the fluffiness!!

Look at the top of the tube.. the white part..use the "peak" on the tube made by the pink part...check it out that way. Then you will REALLY see his growth!

how expensive are coco worms? i have seen them at my LFS but they were pretty expensive, like $60 if not more, they are very pretty compared to most feather dusters.

Yeah they are pretty pricey compared to other worms. They are usually around $70. I got him half half, and couldn't pass that deal up!!! I got him from Blue zoo, the two smaller ones didn't make it, but coco is growing strong!!

Wow
had no idea that a featherduster got that big! I have a few on my rocks but nothing like that. Very nice!
Off topic, I noticed you had lava rock in your tank? I always heard that wasn't good for a saltwater tank. I have some lace rock in my tank that I was worried about. Do you have any problems with the lava?

Yeah he is huge! He is a Coco feather duster though, they are larger than the typical Hawaiians. But my rock is not lava rock. It is Hawaiian. It sure has color like lava rock, but is starting to get some color (finally), the rock was basically black when I got it, I can just say they will not get my business again! haha. Anyways, tahnks for the comments, he is still growing strong.

We had a little upset, I had one of the black/white hermit crabs, he was eating LITERAL holes into the tube of the feather...but we have that taken care of now, and the worm had his tube fixed the next day!

Oh my, it makes me feel great to see him grow so much!! He is still doing amazing! Doesn't even mind the fish touching him, my two clowns rub on him all the time (not hosting) just swim by slowly and he has no problem with it.

Ireally like the Coco worm, a lot more...color/character. The hawaiians are great too, well I just have not had luck with them, both of mine failed. Anyways, they add WONDERFUL color, great addition for many. Just make sure to keep Triggers from them, puffers and such..

It is an invert.

What it is...just in case you don't know anything about them, I would be happy to fill you in.

In a nut shell--

First of all they are filter feeders. How the feather duster/feather worm works in inside of it's tube. In this case the Coco worms have hard tubes. Most others have a more of a soft squishy tube. There is a worm inside of the tube, that sends it's "crown" which is the feather like cap, it sends those out of the tube to collect food. They help to lower nitrates too! When frightened they will retract very quickly into the tube. Typically you never see the worm, unless something is wrong, or they want to relocate. I saw mine once, (a different feather than on this thread) and he died, he was completely out of his tube. Anywas! Hope I helped. Let me know if you have any other questions

Yes I did... finally starting to get growth. Didn't get anything exciting (critters, anything fun growing) But oh well I guess. I will have to shop around more when I do my 220! But, Stephanie does get some of her LR there from what I understand, and she is impressed with her..so maybe I just had bad luck..
