Default Sand Dollars

Ok, this may be a silly question but does anyone keep sanddollars? If so how? Where do you get them? Are they easy? I want something to sift the sand and I thought that it would be cool to have one?

Hi Angie,

We live in NC and have a condo at Beaufort, NC. There's an island close by called "Sanddollar Island" because you can wade out and pick up sanddollars. I keep a small tank there for local fish, snails, shrimp, etc. Tried a sanddollar once, but he did not do well. That was my one and only live try, cause it makes me mad/sad to see people collect them to bleach-out for decorations. Good luck on finding info!

Sorry teajay. Have been away. Yes, you need a boat to get to the island. The ferry boats do not go there. It has nothing on it except shells and sanddollars and lots of boat people at low tide. There's not much exposed in high tide.
