I don't know if that is normal or not, but it looks like the top of the tube is broken.

it is . I didn't see it well enough at the store and couldn't find another when i saw. i'm ordering checks and getting on line soon. i just got back from there and I can't take being over charged any more. i have to cure them of ick too. I bought some iodine and formula one that has plankton. the aqua guy said it's prob. like i thought. i move new rocks in there they are smaller and it really looks like he's going for current. i hope so

I don't know. I think probably not, but I've never kept one of those guys. Is there any way you can move it out of the current until the tube recovers? It just looks like it is getting beat up right now, maybe some lower current will help it recover/rebuild.

have you tried touching it to see if it tries to hide? if it doesn't react to you touching it try pulling it softly to see if he is grabing on to his tube. some times they cannot hide if its tube is too short. if it doesn't try to hide or if it isn't holding on to its tube it could be dying. if it is ok he should make a new tube pretty fast. some sort of calcium additive like purppleup helps them to build the tube faster.

i have been keeping feather dusters for as long as i've been working with saltwater. i have never target feed them they seem to do well with just stirring my sump or the bottom of my tank. i have been able to have them breeding in my tanks and they seem to like the sump to grow. they are hardy fellows and i wouldn't be so stressed about it, he should recover soon.
