Icon5 Setting up shark tank

Hi all, I have a few questions regarding shark tanks.

I'm pretty interested in getting a shark tank set up. I'm looking at bamboo sharks or similar small species. Read informational sites, they say 180 gal tank should suffice. However, reading various forums, reefers fell pretty strongly about going bigger, perhaps the min being 220. I have just come across a great deal on a 200 gal tank. Although i don't have exact dimensions, it looks to be really long 8-9 ft. Would this suffice? I am not looking to over stock. This will be a fish only tank, a couple predatory and maybe some tangs.

As of right now I have a little 46g reef tank thats doing very well. Just running a little HOB protein skimmer and custom built sump/refugium with a pile of cheato and a live rock section.

Speaking about filtration, what filtration needs do shark tanks require. I'm trying to figure out how expensive this project will become. I understand that a very decent protein skimmer is required, but unsure where to start looking. If you have any suggestions for size for the 200g tank, or links that i could check out, that would be great. What other recommendations do you have? Would i need reactors of any kind, refugium, any information would be great. If you know of anyone who has put together similar project that i could check out that would be great as well.

Thanks for checking,

Any advise would be great.
Keep in mind that i'm a college student, so cash is not plentiful, budget options are the best. Or am i getting in over my head?

in my OPINION a protein skimmer ( a good one) and lights that arent strong since there eyes are sensitive, with a sump full of rock ( probebley 75 gallon sump) (with NO rock in the main tank since it can scrape them and cause infection.) and a pretty good sand bed and i think youll be fine, but i think only bamboo sharks

I spoke to a shark keeper today as I was curious about them too. He mentioned something I never would have thought of. Sharks wait for it to build up and up in their bodies. Then when they let go they alone can cause spikes of amonia every time they ahem empty out. Good Luck though let us know how it goes

Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

To get that tank setup right you might be looking at a good chunk of change to get that tank setup even if you pull some really good deals

yes, I think you would have to spend a lot of money for this kind of setup too.

Thanks for all your input.

After all said and done I have decided that now is not the best time to embark on this adventure. But who knows. Maybe sometime in the future.

Thanks again
