Default 470 Gallon Acrylice Display

Here is a picture of my 470 gallon acrylic tank. Dimensions are 96L X 36W X 30T. It is plumbed into a 120 gallon sump/refugium.

My first tank was a 55, just got me started in this hobby nad went from there. Each new tank got a little bit bigger and I guess I got a little carried away.... I'll have to go back and see if I can find some pictures of the 55 when I got started. I now use that tank as my QT.

Thanks for the pictures how long has this tank been up? Would you mind showing us the filtration system? We would really like to see you nominate your tank in the tank of the month thread! Your system is beautiful and I love your choices in fish!

Does that lobster know what date he's going to be used for your romantic dinner?

Seriously though awesome pics. I am muy impressed. With that lobster in there what other cleaner crew do you use? What does the lobster feed on? Sorry for questions but just impressed with senor claws.

I wish that I could catch him. I got him two years ago and he wasn't more than a couple of inches in length. Now he is at least ten inches and his feelers are a least a foot long. He eats most anything, including some fish that have died behind the rocks. His favorite is silversides and algea waffers.

In this pictures, it is a little hard to see, but he is working on a 3" silverside.

For desert, he decided to munch on one of the leathers after the lights went out.

The tank has been set up for a little more than a year and a half now. I'll take some pictures tomorrow of the sump and filtration that is located in the basement.

For lighting, I have 2 48" Coralife Aqualight Pro 150 HQI/compact fluorescent fixtures, and 3 400 W MH's with 14K bulbs.

I hate to admitt this, but last time I took a head count in the tank, there were 53 fish. I can hear the sirens now....

If I remember right, there is about 400 lbs of live rock. I had a friend place the rock for me and I couldn't be more happy with the way that things turned out.

when your friend was placing the rocks in the tank, was he IN the tank, or did he just reach over?

I should start a tank of them, not only does the lobster love them, so do the rays, shark and octopus. I go through a 16oz frozen flat pack every two weeks.

The new tank was a differnt story. I think Travis wanted to take a swim before putting the rock in the tank.

I hate to post this picture, but this is my first salt tank, a 55 gallon tank. Not a very good picture but it gives you an idea of how I started.

great minds think a like my filter system is in the basement! 53 fish seems to be just right in your system they look happy and schooling around nicely. I am not the Fish police here and I feel that if you can introduce the fish in the proper manner then go for it! it seems you have a fair amount of tangs. How many can I ask? These are my favorite and have you ever had the archiles tang? This would be my trophy fish!

There are 21 tangs in this tank. Here is a shot of the Achilles;

The filtration for this tank is a half floor down in the basement. This first picture show the 120 gallon sump/refugium. The Deltec skimmer is sitting in front of the sump, with the CA reactor over to the right. They are a little hard to see in the pictures, but there are 2 Blueline pumps for the returns.

This picture shows the chiller in the corner, the Lifeguard mechanical, chemical and dual UV's. Also in the picture is a sand filter along with a phos reactor. The tank is a 50 gallon RO water for top offs in the tank
