Default Serious Tank Failure...

Serious Tank Failure...

Well the 175 bow was up and running for a whole 5 days.

Woke up to my tunze 6100 alarms going off. walked into the fish room and floor was wet and the tank was 1/4 empty and peeing out the water hard..

The front silcone seam blew out.

My Corals and Fish are ok but alls my live rock is now dry rock..

Ordered a brand new AGA 210 today for a replacement 6 foot tank.

This is VERY depressing and upsetting, but I am determined to stay in this hobby and do it better then the last time...

Krazy K,

So sorry to hear about it. If there is anything you need or help with let me know I am glad to part with something to help you stay in the hobby. Glad your fish and corals are ok but if you lose any corals, I would gladly share or give up some to help replace your loss.

I would feel better donating a coral then losing a vital member to our RB Community.

Steven

I was just thinking last night about what I am going to do if my new tank doesn't hold water once it's set up in the middle of a construction site. Thanks for worrying me even more now.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Is the tank manufacturer swapping out the tank for you for free? Glad to hear that your corals and fish are still ok.

Krazy, how horrible! Glad to hear the fish and coral are OK. Like Brian says, hope the tank manufacturer is swapping out the tank for free. Also hope your new landlord understands.

Krazy that's terrible.....I dred this happening to me since it already happened to my 20 gallon fresh water...and I lost everything fish and all. I tried getting them into buckets but they didn't make it past the night. I really hope nothing like this happens with your new tank...I don't know if you live in an apt. or a house but if you do live in a house is there homeowners ins. that will cover such a loss?

Hey Elliott quick question....after your tank spilled or for any time for that matter...does your tank smell like the ocean. This was one advantage I was really looking forward to having with my tank but I've been told that if it smells like that it's in pretty bad shape.

no, it did not smell like the ocean. it has a mildewy smell when the carpet was wet.

Yeah, typically when your tank smell like the ocean, that means there is stuff decaying in the tank.

Tile is the way to go. Trust me here. Carpet is kind of gross when you stop to think about it. I can mop my tile floor with a bleach solution and kill everything that may be growing on it. Try that with carpet. Also I have cats - the cat hair would never come out of a carpet.

I am paranoid about leaking tanks. I have a nice empty 55 gallon now, but I am not in a big hurry to get it going. It is the winter home for my pet monitor lizard.

I give all my tanks a one week leak test. I clean off a spot on the back patio, and fill the tank up with tap water. Then let it sit. Some old bedsheets over the top keep it from breeding mosquitoes. If it does not spring a leak in 7 days, I figure it is good. Or at least I hope it is good.
