I thought it was because they were sick & the grass either helped make them better or it made them vomit.

I have heard that too, but I don't think it is always true, my dog seems to eat greass whenever it is long, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with how she is feeling. If she eats to much she vomits, so maybe she felt sick before eating it those times. Today she was munching it, but I am sure it was just for fun because the grass was very long. She didn't vomit after.

If I remember the bitter chemicals of regular grass induces vomiting. This may be a way for dogs with upset stomaches to purge themselves and feel better. Who knows?

BTW - 100th post. Yay! Avatar time!

I know cats do it to make them vomit up fur balls. I have never had a dog though.

Still trying to figure out why mine likes to chew and play with rocks when she has plenty of more expensive chew toys. I haven't even attempted to try and figure out the grass part yet. However, I have heard of them using it to try and puke or settle the stomach or something.

It's to make themselves sick. How often your dog does this depends on you. It's diet related and too rich a diet loads the doggie system with toxins that are excreted into the stomach which it vomits up.Hope nobody is eating while reading this but........some re-eat it again.

There is a plant that looks like clover with many small leaves on it instead of the usual three that tastes very bitter, the pregnant animals will eat to induce labor. I learned that from Eul Gibbons before he died from eating a pine cone. lol
