| I thought you were in Houston! Houston is considered north Texas? I'm thinking of this state in it's geographic entirety. The panhandle seems more North. Texarkana is a stretch but I would believe that it is more north than Houston. Houston seems more like Eastern Texas. I had to take cartography to fulfill a minor, I had to learn east, west, north and south...have things changed that much since 1999????

| Yeah well, living in the desert probably has it's own complications. Sand, heat, more heat, wind, etc. Down here in the Valley, the 90 degree temps start in April, and go into October; then there's the constant 80% humidity. When we get temps in the 60's, we are opening windows, a/c off, and letting the fresh cool air in. Last year, we only ran the heat a couple of times.

| In general, from March to late October, the AC is on. My yard needs to be mowed by mid February. If I want flowers, the growing season to enjoy them is from March...to March. The humidy is usually in the teens, but if it hits the 20s, you know it (and I come from Illinois where humidity is the rule). Yesterday the heat was nuts. It is the desert, but I could have sworn in the 5 minutes increments that every inch of my skin was on fire. July through August is our "monsoon" season. So far, that usually means we get one or 2 good storms. Last year it was disasterous. I am originally from the St. Louis area so I understand the problems of flood plains. What we have here, in addition to our creekish part of the Rio Grande, we have intermittent streambeds. Developers have built this place up pretty much without serious regard to those beds. Many people had foot after foot of sandy dusty mud in their homes and most of them were mad when FEMA did not pay for a whole new home, reassessed the flood zone and told people that they really needed to buy flood insurance! Oh no! But living in homes in high risk areas is a whole new tangent for me. Oh and once the temperature hits 70 around here, you start seeing people running around in fleece.

| I understand about the part where people run around in fleece when the temp hits 70. Down here, it's accompanied by stocking caps as well. Temps in the 60's brings out the heavy coats and hot chocolate. 50's...things start to slow down; drivers, thought patterns, etc. 40's and less; might as well go buy some charcoal to help heat your homes. We do have to deal with hurricanes from time to time...those are interesting. The grocery stores start stocking up like 10 days ahead of time. The major hardware store chains begin selling the plywood. If the storm stays its course and is still heading this way, you CANNOT buy a scrap of food in a grocery store 2 days before the storm. The shelves are totally bare; anything left people fight over.

| Becky, they do have military bases in Colorado; of all branches (except navy of course). The Springs has the Air Force Academy, and I know there is an army base somewhere...I can't remember the name of it...Ft something...heh heh I'm sure that helps. Check it out. No reason to stay in Texas forever. I lived in Texas for 25 years before I moved to CO, then moved back...now back again I hope. There ain't nothin' tying you down 'ceptin you. You guys can always put in for a transfer...cantcha?

| Carson. I know The Springs. Spent more time going through it, rather than stopping there, on the way to Cripple Creek and Victor. I know a lot of people that want to go there, but I do not know of too many that have been. Must be the resort of all Posts! My husband is locked into Ft. Bliss until Fall 2008.

| Yeah, that's it. What do you think of the Springs? I think they have a wonderful view of the mountains, but the town is kinda trashy; just my opinion.

| I'm not big on the town...but it is several steps up from this place! I like its proximity to other places. If I am there, it's a few hours from Gunnison Nat'l Forest, and a lovely drive at that. Plus I like all the little places. I was out there in July 2000. When I was younger, you could see the mountains well before you made it to the city (coming from Kansas). The last time I was there, I did not see the mountains until I was almost in the city, which is something because those mountains are massive.
