| Historic Highlights of Germany: Regular Sightseeing Tours I could have been here. I would have been happy to learn German...sign me up for Rosetta Stone. I already have the English-German dictionary....every Fromers Guide for the country. Just would have needed to learn to ask where the saltwater fish store is at...I would have been set. Right next to Franfurt, close to Belgium and Luxembourg...the Alps.

| Instead...it is this until 2010...and people wonder why I hate this place. Look at the dust. Google Image Result for http://research.utep.edu/Portals/72/elpaso-duststorm.jpg

| I can put up with a lot. Tried to escape from Illinois for 22 years. Moved to DC where the people were rude and always in a hurry. But, the work was good, always something to do, great places to eat. A hop skip and a jump to somewhere else if you got tired of looking at traffic. Moved here...took me a week to realize that this would be a tough one. Not much to do...nearest big town...no matter what is at least a 5 hour drive I am not counting Las Cruces...thinking more of Tucson or Albuquerque). Only so many time I can escape to Ruidoso to get a change of scenery, enjoy cooler weather. Was hoping to get out of here in 2005. Then it was 2007 and we were getting excited that we would at least try to make a choice of where we wanted to be. Didn't happen. So, January 2010 looks like it will be as good as it gets. And I can only hope that we do not get San Antonio or Kileen.

| That sucks, so sorry... We'll have to provide you with in-house entertainment.... You can always come out here for a visit - there are plenty of places to find entertainment I already tried apparently she is too good for CA. Either that or Camp Pendalton and earthquakes scared her off. What ever happened to Korea? |
| ||||
| Oh, it is Korea all the way. Usually, you get those choices like I mentioned and then the army still sends you where they want. My husband asked what his choices were back in October when he was a year out. Explained that he wanted to update his preferences and did not want to be picking places which were already overstaffed. Branch said that the army could not predict that early what would be open and that placements depended on who was ready to deploy right now. Duh. So a week later, my husband gets an email stating he is on assignment to Korea, 14 months out. Couldn't get the choices, but they somehow knew about Korea. Since we have been locked in here and we have been watching all of the decent assignments slip by. Very rare to get this many good possibilities. We could also have been in Maryland, California, Washington State, 3 openings in Germany, one in Italy, one in Japan...plenty in Korea.

| I never cross the border. Juarez is not much of a resort town. Considered going over there when we first moved here. That place has too many problems, and now...military are restricted from crossing over. Just Juarez from what I understand. A few weeks back the cartels were picking off the police and that pretty much did it for going over to fart around.

| Back in the early '60s my dad's enlistment was up, he was offered any post he wanted. He thought Germany would be nice, went home over lunch and asked my mom what she thought. They decided to reenlist and go to Germany, he got back to base, asked if he still could go anywhere he wanted, and was told that orders had come down during his lunch time that all reenlistments were going to Vietnam. He decided not to reenlist.

| Juarez is pretty rough; that's for sure! Tijuana was more appealing when I lived in San Diego. It was nice to have a completely different environment and culture just a drive away. Why are they restricting military from crossing over?

| Becky that sandstorm is NUTS...I thought it was bad in 29 Palms. But really texas can't be that bad...how far is the Alamo..I'd love to see that...personally I never wanted to go over seas Okinawa or otherwise..just didn't appeal to me. I'm sure everyone on here will try their hardest to make this an acceptable year on RB. |

| El Paso isn't like the rest of Texas...and yes, it is that bad. I will remember this as one of the most worst times of my life. I have a feeling those sandsotrms get worse along 1-10 in New Mexico and in much of Arizona. The Alamo is in San Antonio and that is pretty far. Texas is a huge state!
