Default Just bought 1st piece of coral (Frog spawn)!

We just come from the local with our first additions to our tank! We took home a feeder shrimp, a star fish and a 3 tube Frog Spawn. I really hope that our clown fish will host in the Frog Spawn

I'll post some pictures as soon as I put them in the tank, keep your fingers crossed!

How cool. I'm jealous! Still cycling here, and I'm beyond ready for some creepy crawlies in my tank! Can't wait to see pics.

you didn't mention it but is that a toadstool leather on th left?

beside th frogspawn, that candycane skeleton would make a great base to start you some zoanthids on, great potential for a nice piece, not saying what you should do, just an idea... but if u do give it some space away from your frogspawn! got mine too close, believe it or not the inocent lil zoas killed a couple tenticles on my frogspawn...

that is NOT an aptasia! it's a toadstool leather, a soft coral.

zoanthids are easy, a good starter coral thats easy for new people but still are enjoyed by most all reefers no matter what exp. level

T-Bone the second picture you posted does appear to be aptasia, but what IceMan circled is a leather. Kill the aptasia but leave the leather. There are some really good threads onhow to eradicate it here on RB.

that toadstoll if left alone will grow out to a prettier shape but just be carefull to keep any of your corals seperated by a few inches especially leathers! if too close many corals will go to war, left seperated you will likely love that leather but if you over crowd him he can release chemicals you won't see that kill everything in th tank. not trying to scare you, i love my leathers but two problems when i got mine.

1. ALWAYS research anything you add in your tank. (i was guilty, i didn't)
2. LFS don't trust them... hate to say it but for th most part it's true, there are some great ones but most just shove product, get on sites like this n talk to these people, they are always willing to help, (they did, and do for me)

Thanks for the help Iceman! I went down too my LFS and saw what a piece of toadstool is suspose to look like... and, as you said it looks like what's in my tank I also took your advice and moved it away from my Frogspawn... I really don't want to take any chances so I put it on the other side of the tank!

Thanks again!

Wow I like how it looks when it gets bigger! How fast do they grow under the proper parameters... yours look awsome

What kind of lights do you have? Do they like high flow areas?

I just ordered some aiptasia-X today and I'm gonna waist those suckers

Here are a few pics of the frogspawn (now that it's opened)
My clowns are starting to "test the waters" with it!

I've been feeding them (the 3 pods) Brine shrimp, THEY LOVE IT

I really like this thing, it's like crack!

yes it is!!! he looks healthy and happy to me. as for your aptasia, i've read on the aptasia-x and it's supposed to be reef safe but i use peppermint shrimp, they are hit or miss but i got lucky i bought 4 for my 46g tank and ALL aptasia seems to be gone, still need to get some for my 55 though. g/l and enjoy!!!
