I have Chili coral that I have had for about 4 months. This thing looks awesome when it is opened up with all the little white polyps. However, this coral doesn't seem to open much. I read that these coral prefer low light, but ever since I move the coral down to the sand bed, it has not opened up. Any suggestions? Should I place this coral in a cave?

Did a little more research on these guys and learned that they prefer to hang upside down from caves in the wild. Looks like I'll be getting some more superglue gel.

Just get it shaded and it will do ok but no direct light. If its polyps are not coming out you could try putting it in a bowl with some cyclopeze. That might help getting those polyps back out and feeding. Good Luck ![]()

Most anything is possible.

I think this is a question for Fenner on Wet Web Media.
| ||||
haha just forget i dont want to hurt any coral

Ok, I got some JB Weld Underwater Weld (Epoxy Putty that is reef safe) and attached the Chili coral upside down from a cave. It seems to be much happier now.

| really ?? i thought that the Epoxy burns the coral like glue does and that Epoxy dose not hold well ????

Epoxy Putty does hold well. The Chili was on a small rock already, I simply used the epoxy to attach rock to rock. It hold much better than the superglue gel does for hanging something upside down. If you look around, you can even find Epoxy putty like this specifically for reef tanks. It dries to the color of coralline algae. Whenever you choose an Epoxy, make sure that it is putty form, and that it is safe for use on pipes carrying potable water. This also means that it will be safe to use in your reef. Superglue gel is good for fragging, and small stuff, but when you need something heavy duty, epoxy is the way to go.
