Ok here is a shot of my wall hammer / anchor coral (I think judging by the tips it's actually an anchor). While I was staring at it, I saw this small dark spot that I thought was a tiny snail. Fearing that it was some snail that was attacking the coral I gently stuck my finger against it to knock it off. It didn't budge. I then realized it wasn't a snail but rather a rough part of the coral that is poking through. The coral seems very healthy and the tissue around it seems fine. I think since it's in the lower portion the coral is just slowly growing past that bump. I will keep watching it but wanted to see what your thoughts are on this. Is this something that doesn't bode well for the future?

First shot is a darker shot of it:

Next shot I used flash:

i have heard that with corals like hammers and frogspawns the skeleton can rub against it and hurt the coral, i know because i asked my LFS because my clowns host a frog. but there not hurting it as far as i can see. if its growing past that part i would say your ok and just keep it happy.

As glasta says, its not uncommon for LPS coral skeleton to punch through the flesh.

I would not worry. In your case, it is very isolated. It probably happend a long time ago. I say this because the skeleton is white. To reach that color it has probably been exposed for a long time.

Thanks a ton for the reassurance. After I looked at it for a while I saw all the flesh looking healthy and I also assumed it had to have happened a while ago. So I was just hoping it was going to be ok, but wanted to double check with experienced folks.

Thank you again for the response.
