I have a torch coral that I'm very fond of, but my hammer coral is a close second. I bought a green open brain coral a couple of months ago that was the size of a siver dollar; now it is almost the size of a saucer- exactly how big is this coral going to get?? Chuck, forget keeping the Emperor angel in the reef tank, I have an Emperor that I'm very attached to also. I had heard they wouldn't eat leather corals and mushrooms, so I tried it and it wasn't pretty. He started getting too big for my 55 gal, so I bought a 100 gal for the fish and now the 55 gal is a reef tank. He's happier in the larger tank and I am happy to have a reef tank where everything in it doesn't get eaten overnight.

Hammer and frogspawn are both pretty easy corals to keep. Mine are under MH and flourescent lighting near the bottom of the tank. They like a moderate current and appreciate being fed about once a week. They are aggressive though and pack a pretty strong sting, so give them some room and don't put them within reaching distance of your other corals.

Acans are defiently pretty nice too !!!

My favorite is the yellow sun coral (Tubastraea aurea) the same coral as seen on the home page of reefbuilders with the yellow polyps that look like a bunch of flowers. I have a 65 gallon tank which is 24 inches deep, so it likes the dim lighting on the bottom. It is a very hardy eater with a turkey baster. I usually feed it at night so the tang doesn't steel all the food.

The Scopis Tang checking out the yellow sun coral. The polyps open up much fuller after the lights go out. Each "flower" tube is fed separately, it is fun to watch it eat voraciously as the polyps grab the brine etc. and the orange mouth in center opens and swallows. ![]()

hey thanks for the info on the corals folks i believe i will pick up some sun coral after my rock cures. my torch coral has now formed two heads after about 2 months i feel like im doing something right. my water quality is priority number on. i will be adding another 220 watts of vho soon. patience is perhaps the most important factor when it comes to reefing.

Great picture! Love the Sun Coral!
