Default open brain

I purchased a 4 inch piece of open brain coral and it is already dying. Half of it is already completely bleached. My water parameters are fine so I think that i might be the lighting. I had the open brain under pc 65 watt in a 29 gallon tank. Is that lighting not powerful enought for this coral? I have some hammer coral that is doing great under this lighting.

That lighting very well could be why your are having problems with your open brain. As a minimum, I'd recommend at least double that. Brain corals are more light demanding than hammers and frogspawn. A nice T5HO unit would be prefered.

I use 2 65w bulbs and mine has expanded to at least 4x its original size. I almost need to give it to someone with a bigger tank!

Most of the "open" brain corals, such as Trachy's, Lobo's and Scoli's, like strong, indirect light and gentle indirect currents to fully open up.
