| Lots of light and sand to put their roots in. The shoots are above water right?

| The most commone type of mangrove is the red mangrove, so that is probably the kind you have. As far as lighting, with my own experience, I have found sunlight thats anywhere from 5000k-7000k is much better. I have a seagrass tank with 21 mangroves and I have 6700k lighting over them and they are doing phenomenal.

| did your mangroves come as Propagules? if so how long did it take them to start growing roots? i currently have my new propagules sitting right under my 10k and actinic lights. |

| Yeah they did. It took probably close to 3 weeks for a noticible root structure to appear.

| Hello, I am new to forums and have a question. I see that you mention you grow seagrasses. I have a dedicated tank for seagrasses as I live on the west coast of FL. With the storms lots of well rooted grasses are washing ashore. I wade out to get and plant them but they turn brown and die. I was told they need extra nutrients what do you use? |
| ||||
| What kind of grass exactly is it? when seagrass get uprooted, even the slightest root damage can kill it. Their roots are very VERY fragile. If the grass is being torn up from storms chances are that the roots are damaged. Check your local laws and if allowed, dig the grass up yourself from several inches into the sand. They dont really need asny extra nutrients...as long as you do water changes you should be fine.

| We have a Mangrove Tree in our 90 Gallon Reef Tank, it's more than likely one of the two common species coming out of Hawaii... either Red mangrove, Rhizophora mangle, or an Oriental mangrove, Bruguiera sexangula) in any event it's doing well and is helping to keep the nitrates down. Regarding your Mangrove that looks like its going to die... Are you cleaning/wiping the leaves off of the salt silt build up, at least twice a month? Sometimes hobbyists forget to do this; it could cause the tree to eventually die off.
