Chaeto During Cycling My new tank is cycling. I added 50 lbs of "dry" live rock 4 weeks ago and 80 lbs of "live" live rock two weeks ago. My ammonia and nitrites are now zero. Nitrates are starting to come up. They measured about 15 ppm this morning.
I plan on adding an external refugium with chaeto and a DSB over the course of the next few months. Don't have the cash right now.
However, I do have one of those small CPR in-tank refugiums left over from an old setup. I used it for fragging softies so they wouldn't float around if they came unglued.
Would it make sense to put it in my display tank with a clump of chaeto to start using up some nitrates? When I get my external refugium up and running, I can move the chaeto into there. It won't cost me anything, but is it a good idea? |
