Dont know about the lighting but just curious if you have ever used that in a tank before? Not sure but isnt that in the Bryopsis family of algae? Forgive me if Im being totally stupid here ![]() |

| Yes it belongs to the Bryopsis family and is wreaking havoc in some areas of the US. It is referred to as Dead Man's Fingers and is a common macroalgae sold at LFS in Japan. They usually charge $20 for a plant, but I picked up 5 for free. |

| I know there are many types of bryopsis Im sure you are aware that if certain types of Bryopsis get going in your tank there is NO cure to keep it from taking over the tank. I was wondering if you know something I dont about this species...hahaha I hope so cause I know next to nothing ![]() OK Im googling now LOL |

| It's a fast grower but with zero nitrates and RowaPhos it won't have much to grow with. Also, since it grows in huge clumps I can always pull it out. Here is a shot of the plants on the left side of the tank. ![]() |

| OK cool I envy you guys that can just go out and pick this stuff up![]() |

| I picked up some purple and white tube anemones plus a bunch of feather dusters (mainly brown with white stripes) as well. The waters was COLD as I forgot my boots and walked barefoot in the water until the tide came in. |

| Oh I am so jealous of you James! The 'dead mans fingers' - is that palatable to tangs? Would they readily eat it before it became a nuisance? And what is on the bottom center/right of the pic? Is that a sea pen?

| There are two sea pens in the right corner. The white one doesn't have its polyps extended. Today the white one went under the substrate but once the lights went out it popped its top out and is feeding. As for the Dead Man's Fingers, I am not sure if a tang would eat it, but I had a Fox Face devour a small once a couple of years ago. I plan on going back next weekend to pick up some sand and maybe a few more anemones. I lucked out and picked up an red/orange sponge-like thing with polyps. No idea what it is but it looked cool and is doing well in my other tank. |
