Elliot, you obviously have the coralline algae that grows just on glass. You need to go to your lfs & see if they have the variety that grows on rocks.

i got 80 lbs of carribean live rock form liveaquaria.

it came load with the algae. all was good, then for some reason, the algae never grew and kinda dicipated, now it is all over the glass but not the rocks!

Ok maybe I missed this but can I ask what spectrum your lights are in? it just may be a matter of making a lighting change in spectrum Usually high antinics produce well

Oh, if you want your coraline to TAKE OFF pick up a piece of your LR with coraline on it and run a serated knife up and down on the coraline. You'll notice that tiny particals will break off. I like to do this to my favorite kinds of coraline (the dark red).

I have done this many times and you will notice a coraline OUTBRAKE in about a week or two provided you calcium, mag, ph, alk are in check.

Oh and it seems that the lighter pink coraline loves to grow on glass. The dark red coraline doesn't grown on my glass at all, neither does the darker pink coraline.

Anyway, good luck!

Jason

That looks about the same color algae I just noticed growing on my sand only; I wonder if it is the flow of the water that determines where this grows...

All I know about my lights is that they're made by Current, one dual actinic 65W and one 10,000 daylight 65W...

I would like to up my lighting a BIT, just temporarily until next Christmas or so; is there a single strip light, T5 or another HO I can just add to my lights now? Or would it be more worth my $ to just upgrade? I'm looking to just upgrade my lights enough to have 3W/gal in my 55gal.... since we're talking about lights and all! *(I may have missed this answer too!).

OH ya, I have the blues come on for 2 hours, then the daylights with blues for 8 hours, then just blues for another 2 hours...

Also, may be the amount of sand I have; I have about 1" in some spots and bare in others so adding more sand today. Guess this hobby is about trying things till you find what works sometimes, just glad I only have pods and cleaning crew in there now, no fish or inverts yet!
