The refugium lights in my case are run the opposite of the daylight cycle, it helps keep the ph stable.

Depending on which algae you use, you can run it 24/7

I run my fuge opposite from my display, but there is some overlap, i give my fuge 14 hours on. Plants are adapted to grow best when a dark and light cycle is present. There are different metabolic processes during the two cycles, for optimal growth there should also be a dark cycle.

Some people report though by running their light 24/7 over caulerpa it will keep it from sporulating ( going sexual ).
