Default Need help saving my Gorgonian!

Well the tank is doing great!.............except for my yellow tree gorgonian.......the last hair algae outbreak messed it up good. a lot of the tissue on the branches had decayed away, but there are still a few white polyps........it's about half the size it was when I got it. I'm trying to save it, and have moved the gorgonian to my nanocube tank (after scrubbing any algae off it's branches and dipping it for 1 min in fresh R/O water. I put some phytoplex into the nanocube today to. Any suggestions for getting this Goronian to come back? It's still kickin' but is in bad shape. I'm hoping being in the 12 ga. nanocube, and a couple doses of phyoplex per week will bring it back. Any help appreciated.

If the dead parts are on the tips of the braches, try to trim them off. And scrape a bunch of the dead tissue off as well. I personally have not done that, but I have read this is what to do. I have 2 types and both are doing fantastic!

Good suggestions e baer. Also if you can place it in a cave with good flow. The darkness will help keep the algae off, and the gorgs need decent flow to bring food to them. Live food products would be better and probably trigger a better feeding response. DT's live phytoplankton, hatching baby brine shrimp, DT's oyster eggs, and frozen cyclopeeze should all be suitable foods. Also rotifiers if you have a bit of time on your hands are great.

i thought once a gorgonian started going down hill it was nearly impossible to bring it back?? i have yet to ever have one jump back to life...my yellow one is still kicking but has seen better days. seems like as soon as you move it from a certain spot it has been in for a while for whatever reason, they always seem to take a dump on you. i havent seen my polyp up in forever but it still has its yellow color.

The yellow ones really arent appropriate for the average reef tank. There just isnt enough food for them. I have a red one which so far is doing really well and seems to be getting better. When it was in the open it was slowly declining with less and less polyp extension, and it had algal films begining to grow on it. As soon as I moved it into a cave it opened up almost completely and has remained that way for several weeks.

I have around a 35x turnover rate. So I have good flow all over the place.

I have good flow everwhere, even in the cave. The branches of it actually tremble in the current.

yeah I have. But the day I shipped it I was in a big rush and I couldnt find any of the nice heavy duty bags my mom has, so I had to settle from some ziplock bags and tape.

Someone got their paycheck and it was smelly and full of saltwater lol.
