a blue ringed octopus is incredibly deadly. one little sting and your dead in 10 minutes or less!

there is no antivenom wither, so if you get stung, your screwed.

Why would someone put a blue ring octopus in a tank with a mantis shrimp? What was the point?

Does the person who shot the video get off on fighting dogs too?

All in the eye of the beholder my friend. The Mantis shrimp is the fastest striker in the ocean I hear. They also have the most advanced eye sight out of any creature. Way more advanced then humans. We see 3 colors in our spectrum. Red, blue, and yellow. The Mantis shrimp I believe sees close to 15-20. They can also see uv light as well. When keeping them as a pet you have to keep them in a 3/4 inch acrylic or thicker because there blades will break the glass. So you say they suck but in fact they are wicked cool. Now with that being said I absolutely hate this video and it pained me to watch it.

Dont get me wrong, you can dislike something and still respect it. I just thought the Octopus looked cooler so naturally that is what should have won. The mantis shrimp looks like something that should be on a plate with butter, but then again i do love calamari

Bottom line was that was uncool. Nothing deserves to die like that in captivity. In the wild its another story. And further more that could have went either way. It was all about who got the upper hand first. My personal feelings on this are that it was very inhumane to find out either way.

my friend who has a few mantis', told me that the mantis' exoskeleton is thick enough the the blue ring cant poison it.

Hmmmmmm

Well, guys....

Where is the study? I see a video.
I have to admit my distaste...I sort of had that feeling I get when I hear a parent has absentmindedly left their kid in a baking car in Phoenix.

Without the study, some sort of synopsis of what these "scientists" were hoping to accomplish, this is just a video of two animals enclosed in a tight space going at it.

why is this so upsetting to people. because it is a blue ring or because it is a living creature in general?

It is kinda the same thing as people dogfighting or chicken fighting or any type of animal fighting if you ask me. If they are actually trying to get something out of it then it is slightly justified, even though i still dont know if i agree, but this just looks like someone who got bored with their tank and wanted to see some action, so they bought some stuff that knew it would try and kill one another and video taped them in a very small space. It is a living creature and it is just wrong to try and obtain entertainment by having them battle to the death. Thats just my opinion though.

I recently switched to marine biology as a major and in alot of the studies ive seen in classes, they do A LOT of these types of things!

...and so what if scientists were filming it? It wasn't in there as food. They could've waited for that scene on a reef, but nooooooo. They just had to do it in a small tank, where the octopus had no chance of winning. I doubt those "scientists" knew wht they were doing.
