Default New to Nanos

I'm not new to saltwater tanks, nor am I new to Nano type tanks. But I am new to the actual Nano Cube. I recently bought a 12 gallon Nano Cube Deluxe because I'd actually like to enjoy a small reef. My other half decided that the other tanks that we have he would rather see aggressive fish in them so I haven't had a chance to do anything for myself. I have taken out the ceramic from the middle chamber and put about 2.5 lbs of live rock rubble, and have replaced the stock pump with a MJ 600 but am thinking of putting a MJ900 instead. I'm not sure yet. It puts off plenty circulation, so I may keep it as it is. I took out 13-15lbs of live rock from my other tanks (mainly fiji and a couple of pieces of tonga branch), 12lbs of live sand from my tanks, and water from one of my 60 gallon so there wouldn't be that much of a cycle if any. I'm pretty pleased with what I've done so far. I don't plan on putting anything in right now because I'd like it to age a couple of weeks to make sure there aren't any problems. I left room all around from the rock to the tank walls for easy cleaning access. Let me know what you think and any suggestions that you have, if you have any. Thanks for looking

The signs of a cycle would be very minimal if any at all. Good thinking about waiting a couple of weeks to add anything. What are your plans as far as stocking option for fish/corals/inverts? I know it will be a while but it is always good to know what you are aiming for.

I was thinking Clown Gobies, if I even put any fish in there. I feel like a cube is too confined for fish even that small. As far as corals, maybe some softies. I'm still weighing my options. Thanks

The maxijet 600 that I got the other day is horrible. It puts out hardly any flow. I am not sure if I want to go with a 900 or 1200, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The only thing I have seen as far as a mini cycle is detitris or is it detitrus? Not sure of the spelling. So I pulled the powerhead out of the back of the tank and pointed it toward the rocks and sand. Most of it got siphoned up with the vaccuum. I cleaned the front and sides, but as far as maintenance I don't want to do anything big until it has finished the mini cycle. I checked all of the water parameters and they are at 0, and took a baggy of water to my LFS and they said the same thing. So far so good. Knock on wood.

Here are a few pictures with some soft corals, a feather duster and some others. They are doing great, and I do my weekly water change. I have 4 astrea snails, 2 nassarius snails, and 5 dwarf blue leg hermits. The soft corals are assorted mushrooms, xenia, and oh I forgot: on the rock with the mushrooms there are two mini carpet anemones. They seem to be thriving well also. I started with one, and now i have two.

Most people go for bigger tanks because they say bigger is better. I bought this tank (used, but in perfect condition) and was amazed at how much room was in it. I've never tried an all in one, and I'm glad that I have now. It's alot easier. With my 30 gallon I had to buy everything individual and it has cost me an arm and a leg, but with this one I modded it slightly and it has been all under $200. I would definately recommend Nanos to anyone.

If you want a fish or maybe two here is a good reference for really small fish:

Thanks about the website. There are some really nice looking fish there. I'm still putting stuff in a little at a time and hopefully by September I'll have some little fish in there.
