Well start by telling what your system consist of?
| ||||
I mean equipment! Skimmer, sump, lights. ect....
| ||||
Sorry I did not know it was all included in the cube. I would toss the sand and replace it with some new live aragonite sand run a 3 or 4 inch sand bed. Use all the rock you had before. Is there any livestock in the tank know becuase that might make a difference. Dont want to break the tank down for a good cleaning and set it back up with the fish.

can i mix some sand with the sand i have right now? the tank is DEAD and about half full with water. I would like to start basically all over but dont know what to do or what upgrades to get. I kinda want to modify my tank by taking out the hole back compartment and make it like a real salt water tank with a sump external filters yada yada yada.

You could mix the sand just empty the tank clean it real well add the sand and rock back fill and cycle. I dont know about taling the back out you might be better off selling the 29 for a good price and buying a new reef ready tank just a small one or get a different cube with a HQI light. The tank you have tho is set up just right for filtration and stuff is there a skimmer on the tank?

Do you remember what your last parameters were I keep a log everytime I check mine.

If I was u I would just start off fresh, I would keep the sand and add more if u want to. I dont know if you have any live rock in there b/c if you did and it died u should still be able to use it again it will come back to life. But if you want it up and running as quik as possible just get live sand some cured live rock and let the cycle begin. I know how u feel b/c i have a 29gal bc and when things go wrong in there they seem to happen quick. Well good luck with starting over again..

Start off fresh clean the tank really good and add the sand and rock back into the tank add fresh saltwater and start cycling. Go to walgreens and buy a little notebook that you can keep logs of all your testing. If you have a friend that can spare a nice little piece of his rock add that to the tank or just buy a 5lb piece from your LFS and add it in that will seed the tank and help jumpstart your tank...
