Icon5 8 gallon Fan-Cooled Nano Cube???? what do yall think?

when i started my 28 gallon bowfront reef aquarium.....i do it way to fast, and there were a lot of things i could have done differently.......that i WISH i would have done differently. but i learned just like everyone else. but this time i think i gunna do a 8 or 14 i cant decide fan-cooled nano cube aquarium. im gunna do reef. and im going to need a little guidance from all of you. with my 28 gallon it wasnt too big (although you can nev er go too big) but it wasnt too small. now im going small. way small. and this is because we are moving into an apt. but anyway my 28 perameters were always nearly perfect. i just rushed the nitrogen cycle a little fast. did a lot of water changes and such.

i guess what the question that im trying to ask is what do i need to know about 8 gallon reefs. waterchages to chemicals, buffers, and such....anything you really think i need to know tell away!

thanks guys.

missy

With a tank that size waterchanges will be your best friend.Another thing to think about will be water temp. The ambient temp. of the room will have a serious effect on the tank temp.

Keeping your water parameters in check is the biggest challenge, esp temperature. Change 10-15% of your water EVERY week, without fail. Unless you're keeping hard or specialty corals, you shouldn't need to dose anything other than perhaps a pH buffer.

I had a very successful 12 gallon reef tank with 3 fish (clown, fire fish, and banded) crabs snails yada yada. with plenty (if not too much corals. I used fractured pieces of corals from stores that were cheap and let them grow. I did get a mushroom rock and break it apart and put them throughout the tank.

Your biggest thing is water changes. I almost never added chemicals, though i did add plankton. If you do add chemicals do it sparingly...i found that less was more (except when doing water changes). I had so much in the tank that waste was a big issue...corals have waste too remember. My tank probably was one that beat the odds but it looked amazing and worked out well with just water change after water change.
