Default overflow/fliter area size of nanocube

how long and deep and wide is the overflow filter section of a nanocube? Like 18x18x4 or something?

Has anyone ever tried to get rid of the filters, cut out and redo the baffles and add a small light to make a small refugium? I'm envisioning cutting out the baffles and reglueing in baffles similar to the baffles seen here and then adding a baby sized protein skimmer similar to this.

Any thoughts?

All depends on the size of the cube as to the dimensions of the back compartment. Many people have turned the filter compartment into a refugium - Main problem is fitting a light into there. Wouldn't waste your money on the Fission - for a nano your water changes should be all you need. Many people swear by the Fission but most swear at it saying that it is difficult to adjust & just pumps out all sorts of microbubbles.

Well I also think that it depends on the nano tank to determine the size of the overflow my 12 gallon nano overflow is 13x13x3 but it probably also depends on the brand.

I'm kinda shopping the 24 gal nano (which I believe is 18x20x20 overall) and was thinking about maybe doing something like this. Does the whole "divider" (the wall that separates the tank from the filter area) lift out of the tank?

Not really. They are pretty well sealed in there.

I cant lift mine out of the tank if I was going to take it out of the tank I would have to cut it or brake it out of the tank.

I guess that kinda scraps the idea of cutting out the existing baffles and putting baffles back in different places...
