Default having halimeda problems

Hi, I recently got a halimeda plant for my 30 gallon nano reef. It turned white overnight and
crumbled and clouded up the tank pretty badly. My valenti puffer died in the process. I need
suggestions on compatible livestock after I solve the water problem. I currently have 2 maroon clowns, a bubble tip anenome, serpent star fish, a choclate starfish and 2 damsels. I was told the choclate chip star fish would eat my mushroom corals. Is That true? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

From the Shedd Aquarium web site: Chocolate chip sea stars aren't picky eaters. They feed on sponges, bacteria and detritus or waste products and the remains of dead plants and animals. Since they don't have eyes, chocolate chip sea stars hunt using their sense of smell. Once they smell something they want to eat, the sea star carries itself over to its food. The mouth of sea stars is on the oral surface or underside of their body. The star covers its food, then pushes out its stomach from inside its body and covers it. Stomach juices smother the food, and cilia or tiny hairs move its now gooey meal inside the sea star's body.

You need to watch the types of algae you try to grow. They can literally destoy a tank as you've found out.

I've had good luck with Halmedia over the past and present...

I had it in a 10 gallon tank for months, literally went from a small piece with 4 leaves on it to a plant I got $50 in credit for from the LFS...

I now have a piece of florida rock in my 90 which is just WONT stop growing on, I prune it off time and time again only for it to come back every time..

I put a few pieces in my aquapod 24 last night, its still pretty green today, I hope it does well after reading your horror story...
