Default sea horse nano tank

OK, the grandkids want sea horses but my reef is full of fish. So I want to start a small tank for just sea horses. So here are my questions
1. What is the smallest I can get to keep seahorses right. I am looking at at least 3 seahorses
2. Do I need the MH lights and all that for SH or is regular tank lighting ok?
3. What other kind of creatures can exist with the SH?

thank you

Hi there,

Yes you can put seahorses in a nano.. 29 gallon aquapod is great! Dwarf seahorses are a better choice but if you prefer the regular (name has slipped my mind) size seahorses it will work.
NO... you do not need special lighting for seahorses... You can have a couple of NON agressive fish with them like a scooter blennie or percula clownfish or pipfish is ideal.

they will need hitching posts as well. With the aquapod the lighting is such that you can have corals but ASK first only put in non stinging corals or your horses will suffer. =(

Make sure you buy seahorses that are already eating frozen mysis. MAKE the lfs guy show you them feeding! or you can get them online. I have had good luck online. I kept them for many many years.

Good luck and PICS please =)

Most seahorses like dimmer lighting and dont like the water to be fast moving. They like more of a lagoon type of enviroment. They are not much of a reef type. They like thick algea and sandy beds...I think.
