Default Aquapod question please

Hi ev1,

I was just thinking.... If you all know about the nano cubes and aquapods.. well I plan on a 12G aquapod reef... cycling now. Well.... What about a skimmer? You dont need one for an aquapod? Seems like I always ran one on my 75 reef.. Why dont you need one with the pod?

Sorry if stupid question. I bought the pod cuz it was all self contained.. BUT not really if you have to add a skimmer????

The main reason that people with the AP12 are not running a skimmer is because none of them fit while still being able to close the lid!!

If someone makes one (Sapphire Aquatic, are you listening??), I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

I believe the AP12 is the red-headed stepchild of the all-in-ones and is the only one without a skimmer that will fit.

Sapphire makes one that fits the Aquapod. It's the same one you'd use for the JBJ 12 gal except that you put it in the last chamber & have to move the return pump to the 3rd chamber.
Normally people with cubes don't use skimmer because they maintain water quality by doing regular water changes.

if it fits in #4, shouldn't it fit in #1?? I REALLY want a skimmer that fits in #1 and skims as soon as it enters the rear chambers.

It probably would fit there as well but when I had enquired about it, I was told to put it in the 4th.

I emailed Sapphire and they were kinda pricks. I asked if they had one to fit and they quickly replied that chambers 2 and 3 have a false bottom so their skimmers are too tall and nobody makes a skimmer that will fit. I replied back saying that according to the dimensions they give, it should fit in chambers 1 or 4 which is actually where I was hoping to put it anyway. They replied back with something along the lines of 'we work with these systems every day and it won't fit."

I asked if it was due to the waterlevel in chamber 1 being too high or what the issue was and they never replied.

this skimmer was 'designed' for the NC and I can't get a straight answer from Sapphire. I emailed nanocustoms, we'll see what they say.

this is the diagram on the page that said AP12. It shows NC12. The thing that makes me unsure if it will work or not is the water level. My waterlevel if about a quarter inch from the top of the wall in #1 and about an inch or inch and a half from the top in the other 3 chambers which makes me think that the water level might be too high for it to work right.
