Default Want to buy a AquaPod 24 Gal. HQI

Hello all, this would be my first saltwater tank. I read your started guide and it gave allot of good tips. I also ordered "saltwater aquariums for dummies" and one other book. I am looking to get a nano-tank to start off with then maybe if I get a house I'll get a larger tank. The tank I was looking at was the AquaPod 24 gal. HQI but I also noticed that there is another Aquapod 24 gal tank. Does anyone know the diffrence between the two? I want to have coral in the tank and I know they need certain kinds of light but I'm unclear as to what exactly they need. Also I assume I need community fish for such a small tank so what are some of the more heartier saltwater fish and inverts. I'm not getting the tank for quite some time so no rush. But I did finally make the decision today after not having fish for almost 2 years now. I'm quite excited. Looking forward to being part of the community and learning about this wonderful hobby.

Sincerely,
Anthony M.

Welcome to RB!
The Aquapod is a good choice. The one you are considering is equipped with the 70 watt MH light. The other model comes equipped with PC lights. With the MH lights you'll be able to keep most corals. For fish, clowns, firefish, chromis & gobies are good choices.

everything that Gary said is right on except I believe the 24 gal HQI has a 150watt light instead of the 70 that he mentioned. I believe the 70watt HQI comes with the 12 gallon Aquapod.

The 'standard' 24 gallon Aquapod doesn't have enough light to support most corals but would be good for a fish only tank.

Sorry about that - it used to come with the 70. They have since upgraded.

thanks guys I appreciate the feedback. The only thing I'm not sure of is what your referring to as far as lights. I assume once I get my books I'll be able to follow the jargen better, however if you don't mind humoring me could you tell me what PC lights are and what MH lights are. I'm assuming it's the type but I suppose it could have something to do with the wattage. thanks again

As much as I like your setup (in theory the perfect setup for me) I'm not going to sit here and lie to you. Three things are stoping me from buying your setup. 1) I have zero knowledge of saltwater tanks at this time and I would feel awful if I killed your setup. 2) I just started working again and have some college loans to pay off first. 3) Quite honestly I don't think I could find your house/store in NY....I'm sure you would give good directions however I'm just terrible with maps and what not. But I appreciate your offer and at the price your asking I'm sure someone a tad more local would be happy to buy your setup. Again thanks for the offer.

Tony
