That will depend upon how warm your tank and room temp are, the humidity levels in the room, how long the lights are ran, etc... so it can really vary. I'd guess on average about 1/2 gal per day.

Most types of SPS corals are tougher to keep than softies and LPS, but there are some good beginner type of SPS corals such as Montipora (both Caps and Digi), Hydrophora (very aggressive coral), Seriatopora (birds nest), acropora yongei (green slimer). You'll want to stay away from most Acros until you get some experience with other types of SPS corals first as they are generally the most difficult to keep.

Hey Brian I know the usual answer to this question is either hammer or frogspawn but how long in your opinion should you wait to get these beautiful LPS...my LFS says he has trouble keeping LPS and SPS and he's been doing this for 25 years. Either he really sucks or it's a lot harder then it looks/sounds.

Yes, how hard are the hammer or frogspawn to keep. I was told they were beginner, but that came from my LFS who has a tank full of each.

You really think it's necessary to replace the pump and lights on them...I mean I know they're stock and all but how bad can they be at 700 bucks.

Sorry I didn't see your question as to how long before adding LPS or SPS corals. As long as your tank is cycled and stable, 4 months should be plenty before adding LPS corals. This will give your tank a chance to go through the cycle process and then after adding your first fish or two, allow the tank to go through a second, smaller mini-cycle. With the easier to keep SPS corals, 4-6 months should be plenty. Many people recommend at least 6-12 months for SPS corals, but the ones that I previously listed are more hardy.

When you say hard, how so? Keeping your levels in the right range and maintaining good maintenance along with proper current, temperature and lightening should eliminate most problems. One thing I can think of is are you housing the wrong types of corals together, like soft corals too close to LPS corals and your seeing chemical warfare. Other than that, I can't imagine what makes them hard to keep...

Sidebar - Those Cadlights look nice, whoever said they suck must have a biasis to another brand.
