Default 24G Nano Cube Deluxe

Is this a good price for a 24 gallon nano cube deluxe?
Price is $199

link

What else do I need to get for this tank (dry goods) that is not already included?

Thanks

Thats a good price but I would make sure that it has the availability to time your lights. I bought a 12 gal nano tank and it wouldn't allow me to use a timer, so I had to customize it by rewiring the lights to seperate plugs. I would check to see if it has that option but if not you could always customize it like I did. My LFS is selling a 24 gal nano for almost $300. I've never seen that model before so I would suggest checking on the lighting to see if you can time it. Hope that helps.

As far as dry goods, you'll need a heater-50wat, salt, hydrometer, thermometer, light timer, and sand.

A lot of people suggest live sand, but I've learned that you don't need it. A lot of people can argue that, but you can get sand at your LFS and when you are ready to put your live rock in you just get a scoop of live sand from your LFS, and in about a week your sand will have all the bacteria and live stuff it needs.

I placed my sand in first, and put a bowl on it and poured the water in the bowl until it overflowed that way you don't get your water all muddy. Sprinkle the salt in, put in the heater, turn on the filtration and let it sit. Once it's 70 degrees and the salinity is .1023-.1025 put in live rock.

As far as the filtration goes I'd suggest not using what comes with it and use live rock fragments instead.

In the back will be 4 compartments that acts like a sump. The first part that the water goes thru should be a fine sponge filter you should keep that. Then the 2nd is a more corse filter you should keep that too. The 3rd is ususally bio balls and some other stuff. I'd suggest trashing that and instead putting in live rock frags when you put in your live rock.

Hope this helps.

Thats a very good price just make sure its a newer model with a SERIAL NUMBER on the back the older models did not have this and had thinner glass which was known for sudden breaks and cracks without warning. all the info above is good advise maybe replace the pump with a slightly bigger one I added a additional submersable on the opposite side of the tank for more flow. ps jbj the manufacture is coming out in march with a 29 gallon version with a much better hood and lighting check out there site at jbjlighting.com

Bigger is better in some cases and the 29 gallon version is only 70$ more($270). I will be purchasing the 29 gallon sometime in the summer.

Kawboy215 do you know how much the 28g Nano Cube is going to cost? If its as much as the 29 gallon biocube id definatly buy that one instead its a much better tank and has a lot more features.

thankks for showing it to us,
Dan

Can't tell who the mfr is of that 24. I've been watching cubes on eBay. Most of the used JBJ cubes that have been for sale all seem to have the same problem - broken feeding door hinge.

My lfs dealer gave me an awsome deal on one of his tanks so i will not be purchasing a nano. If i were to buy one though it would definatly be jbjlighting's there is so many awsome new features on that thing.

Default Lighting

I am a newbie at saltwater and just purchased a 29 OBC and I was wondering if I should keep the white lights on for 12 hrs a day? lfs person told me to turn the blues on a half hour before turning the whites on which i have been doing and then i turn on the moon lights before I go to sleep. I hope i am doing the right thing for now i am starting to get green algae on the tank and my sand and the live rock. Just went to the lfs and bought some turbo snails hoping this will help out the problem. Right now I have in the tank 40 pounds of live rock and 30 pounds of live sand, I am thinking about getting rid of the bio balls and putting live rock rubble in that chamber. I have been reading this forum for awhile but never posted anything and everyone here seems to be very helpfull so I hope someone can give me some ideas? Thanks for any help with the lights and the algae.
