Default 29gal BioCube Hood Problem!!!

Has anyone who has a BC had any problems with their hood and lights?? I Just got a replacement hood from my lfs after 3 months of no lights at all in my tank. I am amazed that all my fish are fine an well but some of my hammer coral died off, well was just wondering if this has been a problem for any other bc owners.

I remember you had a post about this a while ago. did you ever contact the manufacturer? I would imagine they should have to replace it for free.

Fish are fine with little to no light.

Fish may be fine with no light Patrick but if you have LR, LS, or corals then they would need the light to feed their symbiotic host. Not to mention you would never really be able to gauge how hot your tank gets if you don't have lights running.

I did get this problem solved and the lfs finally gave me a new hood after the new ballasts the manufacture sent me still did not work. What happened first was the blue actinic light went out tried to replace it new bulb did not work took the hood apart didnt see anything wrong so that is where it started. I went back and fourth with lfs and the manufacture didnt get any results the actinic was out about 2 months then i cleaned my tank put the hood back on had the 10,000k light on walked away came back that was now out At first i thought my 5 year old son shut the light off since he was next to it, but he didnt touch it so bought new bulb for that tried to replace no luck I called the lfs store and brought the bulb back in for store credit. One guy there was cool and told me to go to Home depot and buy some clip on lights to hook on to the tank so i could get some kind of light in there did that, but i didnt have any real light in the tank for a couple of weeks, so i did lose some snails my mushrooms are now starting to come back and my hammer corals are improving everyday, I will say i lost a lot of coralline algae on my live rock and in the tank. My fish are all fine eating well look great. While this problem happened I will say I finally got my 90gal tank and stand n I need to get lights and some other stuff to get it running, but this will not happen till after x-mas I will take some pics once the project gets under way.

i've had my 29 gallon bio cube since february and havent had any problems with the hood at all. i do remember going back into the LFS where i bought mine and had been told by the owner that the person that bought a 29gallon cube right after me ended up having to come back because one of the lights didnt work on it..i think it might have been the atinic one. i am glad i got a good one. maybe your tank was assembled on a FRIDAY, MONDAY, OR BEFORE OR AFTER A HOLIDAY...thats when you get the most garbage out of any type of assembly process from a supplier.

if anyone knew how or had a contact at a supplier, no one would ever by a product from any of those days unless it was discounted.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I dont have any problems with this hood. It really sucked for awhile this hood problem almost made me give this great hobby up, but everything is all good for now so back to being a regular at the lfs lol

isnt it sad when you see and talk to the LFS owner more than your own parents? heck, they even see my kids more often than any parents or relatives, they even know them by first name.

The above might be true, unless it's manufactured in China. There are different "traditions" there...(like 7 day work week).

you are probably right...instead of getting a broken hood, it would work perfectly fine and over time after opening and closing the hood to feed your fish you would DIE OF LEAD POISONING!!!!! just say no. unfortunately, god knows how much of our fish stuff is from china.
