Why did you add iodine? There is absolutely no reason for you to be adding it to your tank - you have nothing in there that will deplete it.

b/c the LFS guy told me i needed just a tad bit of it. the fish are fine except for the black domino damsel. im never going to add iodine ever again....i also have noticed that a green bubble as started to grow on my live rock. and i know its a type of algae. what should i do about it?

Read Ryan's blog about the 4 most common mistakes - pay close attention to #4! As Native says you don't even trust your lfs when they tell you where the restrooms are!!
Green bubble algae - try to siphon it out or suck it out with a turkey baster. Be careful not to break it since that will cause spores to travel in your tank.

Could definitely be a poisoning. I am a little confused. Did you QT the fish before adding to the display tank and then iodine?
I would do a nice water change...50%.

Becky,
I think she just threw the fish in there and now has him/her in QT after the OD. I agree about the water changes...no clue about the bubble algae..the little I do know is that it's a nuisnence and a product of an underlying problem.

Missy,
I like your rock work but if your going to add allot of LR then you may want to move your fish/corals to a QT when you cycle again..they could get ammonia poisioning and shouldn't be subjected to a cycle. On the other hand if your buying cured LR then you have nothing to fear. IMHO I think you rushed things a bit....not trying to bring you down just trying to help you out...also never listen to a LFS...unless its *shameless plug* Rumford Pets here in Rhode Island.

Dont go with a air stone for to long you will have salt all creep in a few days.
If you can just go down to wall-mart and get a powerhead to move the water at the top of the tank.
i think they go for about 15-20

What are your readings at? It doesn't sound like it has been set up very long.

missy,

what kind of lighting do you have on your 28 gallon? was it expensive? i can just see my kids or my cats getting into an open top tank.

For what it's worth, I had bubble algea so bad that it became adaly ritual to grab handfulls out just to maintain visibilty in the tank. I purchased a Seahare and the problem went away in a very short period of time. They aint purdy but they love the stuff.
