well, i think my atinic light is not working. came home from work today and noticed right away that the lighting looked wrong. i cant believe this, now what am i gonna do?? you cant just replace the blue bulb right? am i screwed? anyone heard of repairing the 29 gallon hood of a bio cube???

the bio cube hoods are easy to work on if you have the right tools if not it will be about 40$ to get all the right tools

Hey I had the same problem, first try changing the actinic light and if that dont work it might be the ballast. There is a 1yr warranty on the electric stuff like the hood. Dude both my white and blue went out finally went back and fourth with lfs and manufactor and got a brand new hood, only thing now is my fans dont work, I can live with that for now. Good luck with this is was hell for me for about 3 months no lights at all.

did you have to show any proof of purchase of when you bought it? I got mine last February so it has almost been a year. I better hop to it. the only thing is, i bet i dont have my receipt..i probably threw it out so the wife wouldn't see how much everything costed!!!

i got an email from central aquatics, they said all i need to do is provide a copy of my receipt and they will send me out a new canopy...dang it. i am almost positive i do not have it anymore...now what do i do? any suggestions?

you may be able to get one frome the store some keep a hard copy for 1-2 years

Hey Steve the place I got mine from replaced it for me and gave me one right out of a new box and sent the old broken one back as a defect, so maybe your local fish store will do the same for u if u try and ask them. I also did not have a reciept but they were cool about it since they knew i bought it there under a year. I was suprised b/c the manufactor was even cool with it i called them first and they sent me new ballast, but just wasent the problem so i did get a new hood. Hope things go faster for you than they did for me..

you read my mind...we think alike. i am going to stop by my LFS on the way home and ask if they will either replace the canopy, give me a copy of the receipt, or give me a receipt for a tank and then refund me the money and let me keep the receipt. either way...I'LL GET ME A NEW CANOPY...how important is the atinic light? isnt it more for us to get more enjoyment out of the colors, then just plain old high powered lights? i wonder if it does turn out to be the ballast, if i'll still need a receipt from aquatic central or if my LFS will hook me up with that as well. hopefully the 1 nice owner is there and not his brother..he is a lil OFF if you know what i mean.

i think i have one of the best LFS around. i stopped by, talked with the owner..he gave me a free atinic bulb and gave me a new balast to try out just in case it isnt the bulb. just told me to bring back whatever is broke..fricking beautiful i tell you. figured i would eat dinner before i dove into taking the clear protective cover off and get to work. wish me luck.

well, it turned out it wasnt the bulb or the ballast....i tried them both out and nothing. turned out the easiest thing to do was to just put the actinic bulb into the other bulbs place and it worked so the canopy is bad. i emailed a copy of my receipt to central aquatics on saturday and he emailed me back on monday telling me i would receive a brand new canopy for my 29gallon cube in a week FOR FREE!

TELL ME THAT ISNT COMPLETE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SATISFACTION!!!

i wonder how the other nano tank manufacturers handle these situations, because central aquatics is #1 in my book.

i think i should of waiting for the canopy to arrive before i congratulated the company. my brand new replacement canopy arrived yesterday via UPS. i was so excited i opened up the cardboard box which looked perfectly fine from the outside. there was my brand new 29 gallon bio cube hood, even had it in a black protective fabric sleeve.

WELL, IT DIDNT PROTECT IT ENOUGH!!!! i pulled it out...immediately could see scratches on the top...ok, i could live with that, it was free...but then i notice the back of it at the access door is completely cracked in half. by now i am already depressed enough, but i flip it over and both bulbs are completely free from their sockets just sliding around inside the plastic protective light cover and 1 of the light sockets is broken free from the canopy and the other was cracked.

where did they ship it from...beirut?????? i immediately took pics of it, and emailed the company. we'll see what happens. it took me a lil while but with some crazy glue and some various other tools..i was able to put it back together and use it temporarily. at least i have some nice actinic light going...the moonlights are better in this canopy than my original, seem to provide a wider span of light on my various mushrooms, ricordia, and yellow polyps.

well, like i said...i used alot of superglue and fixed the broken canopy plastic and the bulbs worked fine. so i am using it right now, plus i still have my old 2 bulbs that still worked.

AND...

i got another email from central aquatics and they are sending me ANOTHER brand new canopy, so in the end i'll have 3 sets of bulbs that work, 2 fully functioning canopies(1 with some minor damage), and my 1st orginal canopy with just the actinic light socket that doesnt work. i think i made out pretty good in the end. i should probably get the new canopy early next week.

too bad i dont have another tank, i could just use one of the extra canopies and i would have 2 tanks, could use one as a frag tank..hmmmm....anyone got an extra 29 gallon cube tank laying around?

i guess couldnt i really just get like a 10gallon glass tank and set the canopy on top of it and just use that as my light source??? sounds feasible.

Nice to see that you got a new canopy, I was happy when my lfs store gave me mine when it broke but now the fans dont work on this one. Well at least the lights work and the fish are happy and so are my mushrooms, hammer, and my anemone.
