Ok,
I am now planning my third sort of-nano tank. I need some input. The plan is 36" longx16"x16" with a 33 gallon sump. 70 gallons in total. Alternately 36x12x12
(The length is only to accomodate the VHO)

reef wise: Acropora, Montopora, sps, a couple of lps, and clams. All of which I have had limited succes in the past with my existing tanks (mostly lighiting or live stock conflicts).

Lighting: considering the depth my first thought is to go to VHO 4-36" tubes 2actinic, 2 10,000 k. Alternate is Power compact with the same temps. I could also go with a double 50w 16,000 or 10,000K- power compact actinic combo. Although I shy away from the heat concerns of the metal halide.

Filtration: 30 gallon sump/ Overflow refuge, Calcium reactor, and light periodic skimming.

Substrate: shallow sand/arogonite

Overall, the goal here is more healthy long life then rapid growth.
Im open to all suggestions (as long as they make sense!)

I don't mind going smaller tank size provided the lighting is appropriate for the acro's

Sounds good but the light set up your thinking of running, how much is that going to cost you? I might have a cheaper set up for you...

Im not so worried about the cost. Im really looking to optimize the lighing and chmistry for the acros and monto's.

ok, As posted in the Clam nano (nano section) we are ready for the final build on the 40 gallon nano clam tank. The final call, 10,000k 150w mh, with two 50/50 true actinic t5's. That is the final tally for lighing. Pics will follow soon.

just my opinion but i would go with the 150w MH and two actinics instead of the 50-50s. or one actinic and one 6500k
