Default Clam Nano in the making!

I am now starting to build my 4th nano tank. I have had great sucess (knock on wood) so far so i am commiting to another nanao. I am going to document it from the start to fiinish. Every thing I do! I expect a lot of controversy over this\Non the less I hope that there is lots of input.

As it Stands We have a 40 gallon 36x18x16 all glass tank. Drilled for an over flow and sump. Two 150 w Viper HQI 16000k halides.

The Goal here is Clams, Acropora, montipora. So Calcium reactor it is! I looking to hear suggestions on this....

From both personal experience and reading many posts on here I believe putting clams in a new tank is a death sentance.I do hope you are planning on letting the tank mature a while before adding them.

Here is the Update,

Fired up the Clam tank in Feb, We have a total of 1 Gold Max, 2 green Max, 1 Gold crocea, 1 blue ultra, 1 Green Ultra Crocea, 1 Black ultra max. So far there was only one loss , but the poor bugger left the world with in a day of getting him. Otherwise, all is well.

Still building to a long term goal, I will post some pictures soon.

Well the february start was the begining. Took Filter media, Live rock, Sand from my large tank 5 years established. Bombed it into the nanno. Ran it for two weeks checking water chemistry and of and running. Now, holding at 6 2-3" Clams, golden eel, 6-lined wrasse, 2 blue devil, and a swack of button, and mushrooms.

Running now for 3 months 1 loss. two 30w Power Compact 50-50's one inch from surface of water, 5 inches from first clam 7 from last. Feeding live culture of photo plankon.
Protien skimmer, Canister Filter. That's it.

Just got my stand for the finalized clam nano. It is a 36x18x16" tank. Drilled with sump (20 Gallon) I am in the process of plumbing the final nano. When tested will transfer live stock and post pics. Before and after.

I got a couple of pics from the top of the tank showing the top views of the Clams. Plus a couple of tolkin tank shots from my 100 gallon coner bow.

The Clam pictures are from my 7 Gallon bow front nano. Sorry for the focus issues. My camra does not like the refraction focus from the bow. Makes for a hard clear shot. but you get the drift. The new tank should have better pics cause it's not a bow.

I have fixed the Stand problems that I ran into. the tank is plumbed. Had to put in the over-flow, which has led me to believe my wife in that my Calking job is 50/50.

I don't think that i have gooed it too much. We shal see. Pics of the build before and after will follow. Just letting the silicone set up.

Well, The clam nano is well under way. I have a filtration deficiancy. By god I got Cyano bacteria! Its all good now though. Treated and gone. It still leaves a clear filtration issue. I am brining in a new sump, little smaller. It will allow for an additional small canister for chemical filtration. The clams are great though. Have a new addition coming in tomorrow in theory. 6" Ultra. Can't wait to see what color it is... Ordered randomly from supplier. pics will follow, along with the tear down for new sump

The Cyano is toast, with a 1/4 dose of EM. All is progressing well. Just recieved second dose of Clams.... Including a Gigantic 7" Ultra Gold Maxima! Shipped in error! Woooohoooo. I ordered 2-3" clam (and paid for it) but got giganto instead. Will post picture soon. In the process of re-landscaping clam tank.

We had put a second 150W MH on the tank, however could not control the heat swings. Have since removed it and fliped to 14,000 k from 20,000. clams seem to enjoy new spetrum. Also, added Golden eel to the mix in the clam tank.
