Default Hydor Koralia (Nano)

I just bought one of these today for my 29 gal BC and was just wondering if anyone else has this model? Should i have bought a bigger model? Or will this one be ok? It seems to be doing a great job but for almost 40 bucks I think i should have gotten a bigger one. What do u all think good pick up or bad pick up? Let me know guys i trust everyone here more than the lfs people..

The thing with the Koralias is there is not a very direct flow that comes from them, it is dispersed pretty well. You may have been alright getting the Koralia 1 but the nanos do around 250gph if I am not mistaken so that is around 8 times the tank volume just for a power head. Is that all you have in the tank or is there anything else? If that is all you have you may want to get a Koralia 1 aswell, that would set you at around 20 times for the entire tank. I think it was a good pickup though, i have two of the 1's in my 55 and they do their job quite nicely.

Good thread and info. I am thinking about getting the model 1 for my 22 gallon... Sounds like a nice powerhead and I should go for it.

i have 2 hydor 1's in my 29gallon cube along with the pump/jet supplied with it. i placed one near the top to create flow up there and then i stuck another one down near the bottom to create some flow inside the rock caves. i dont think it creates too much flow at all....the fish and coral dont seem to mind either.

I bought a 1 for my AP24. I was really suprised with how small it was compared to some of the larger models that look to big to me. I ended up turning it off though as my Allardi clown was getting flat worn out by it. I may try it again, maybe get a wavemaker to put it on. I did upgrade the stock pump to a Maxi1200 though.

This is all I have in the tank right now and like you said the flow is not very direct more dispersed. It seems to be doing a good job, i really bought this b/c my lights were broke for some time and when i got a new hood i had a major algae bloom and cant seem to get it under control. I hope with water changes and this new ph things will start looking better for me.

what exactly is a wavemaker and how would you attach it to a hydor k??? i have heard of them but cant say i have ever seen one.

now that you guys have brought up these jets, i really need to take a look at the one i sorta buried in the live rock...i wonder if its even running anymore..you cant see it...problem is trying to get a look at it without turning the tank upside down.

Hey Steve when i was at the lfs they had a Hydor koralia wavemaker i think it was for a nano tank and it looked like all you did was plug it in an position it. What the wavemaker does im not sure, maybe someone else could tell us what they do and if we need them in our nano tanks.

are you guys talking about the plastic thing that just attaches to the return hole on the back of the cubes? the force of the returning water from the stock pump turns the head and it just spins in a circle creating flow? if so, i have one of those but only used it for a week...it kept shooting off and i just didnt like what it did in the tank...glad it was only chump change and not expensive.

i just spent my lunch driving around livonia, michigan looking at LFS...bad thing is, they were all closed...what kind of LFS isnt open 7 days a week!!!!! i was so bummed out..even the reptile stores were either closed or moving to a new location....i am so bummed out.

All that a wave maker does it create random flow patters by turning on and off powerheads so that it is more like the ocean. Hydor Koralias are not the best pumps for wave makers because sometimes they have trouble kicking back on, making it somewhat useless. If I am wrong with any of this please correct me.

oh, i get it...makes sense. all this reefbuilder.com surfing has got me wanting to go home and look at my tank. i wanna go home and see if my blenny is still alive...as of 11pm last night he had jumped into the intake chamber and was hanging out on the filter cartridge...it better not have jumped into the skimmer area and committed suicide...i will go ballistic!!! i didnt pay for it but i would like a fish to last more than a day.
