Default More questions on setup of Aquapod

Hi---
New questions keep popping into my head as I plan my aquapod.
If I keep lights off during cycling, will I loose the coralline algae and other live stuff on the LR.? If I use some light will it cause bad algae? Will a few hours a day of light keep coralline alive and limit bad algae and if so how long should I keep lights on? Also, If I want shallow sand bed what mm size aragonite sand is best?
Thanks for answering very basic question from a newbie.

Blast your live rock with 4hrs of light for 6 weeks and go with very fine sand bed the smaller the better

You really don't even need light during the cycle.

yes 4 hrs will keep your live rock "coraline algae" alive. If you want leave lights off, I let my tank cycle with lights on with these results, 1 Brown algea which is normal
2 Cyano which was gone in 4 days also normal
3 hair algae, which is normal beleave it or not but it goes away and your tank is fully cycled by this stage.
Patience is key in salt water along with weekly small water changes and testing along with algaes, You will always have algae in saltwater so I would go with lights on.
G/L Brian
