Default Setting up.

Hello everyone,

I got a 70 gallon tank from a friend that has been sitting outside on his porch for about a year. I am going to use it for a sump tank. How should I clean it before I get going.

Thanks a lot!!!

Dan

First off, I'd check the silicone to make sure it isn't dried out or cracking. Next, I'd find out if any chemicals, such as copper, were used in it since it can be absorbed into the silicone and slowly leach out over time. After that, I'd clean it out with a 50/50 vinegar/water solution really good and fill the tank outside to make sure it doesn't leak.

Thanks for the info...supposedly no chemicals were used in the tank. It doesn't leak. I already tested it. Does any kind of vinegar work?

Thanks
Dan

Normal white vinegar is best.
