Default Help - Suicidal Anemone

I added a bubble tip anemone to my tank (my first). I have been "babying it" all day because it does not want to stay on the rocks. It keeps hurling itself off of the rocks into the corbner of the tank on sand (upside down), and begins to shrivel up.........I tried talking to it LOL - I'm afraid it willl die. I can't seem to find any instructions on how to add the anemone to the tank after the acclimation process......

Mine did almost the exact same thing after a day of introducing it. I turned the powerhead off and let it really attach itself, then switched it back on the next morning so it could feel the current and find a good spot. It was looking great after a few more days, but then I swapped my 2 false percs for a tomato clown and when the tomato began to live in inside it the anemone started moving under the powerhead where it didnt get enough light. It started to shrivel and wasnt moving out of the spot, so I just moved it today. Not sure how its gonna turn out, but I would try turning off your powerhead and guiding it into a good spot, let it attach securely, and then turn the powerhead back on at a low setting if possible. If you dont have any clowns, it might be a good idea not to introduce one for a while.

my anemones rather odd too. it shrivels up, half way closes, etc. He only opens up in full beauty late at night when, ironically enough, the lights are off. With the lights on in the day his tentacles become short and stubby, sometimes shriveling up. he does move around from time to time. i guess i just don't understand invertebrates without brains. =P

you might try making a small pit in your sand bed and setting the anemone in it and sort of planting it, as you would a flower. just don't touch it too much, as you want to let the stress wear off.

bta sould never be bought unattachted to sometyhing this shows that its foot is in good shape and wasn't damaged in collection if it was damaged no amount of babing will bring it back. if his foot is in good shape put him in the tank turn everything off for a day screen off your intakes and power heads with some fiberglass window screen from your local hardwhare store (wash it very good first) get some string and make your self a drawstring purse of sorts make sure there is about 2 to3 inches of space around the intake. next leave you bta alone he will find his spot he may have several spots he likes mine has one on the front of the reef and one on the back of the reef spending several weeks to several months at each spot when his movement slows to a minimum and he is eating a peice of food once a week or so he is most likly happy and it will probably be safe to take off the screens remember selection at the lfs is the most important step in the process. if his oral opening is open and he is not attached to something leave him be he is most likely doomed.

When I had my bta, it was doing great for about 5 months, then out of the blue, it shriveled up and died. There was a clown living in it from the beggining, so I dont think the clown coud have done anythign to it. Im not sure what would cause this anyone know? I'm debating whether or not to get another one.
