Default Now what?

Hi everyone!

I've had my 29g BC up and running for a whole 5 weeks now. I'm going to get flogged for this but I added 6 hermits and 3 shrimp (1 peppermint - 2 camel) about a week and a half into it. I thought it was okay because my nitrates were at 20ppm. Okay flog me - I thought that 20ppm was okay. My ammonia and nitrite levels were at zero. Anyway, they're doing just fine and they have all molted once or twice and the hermits are moving into bigger shells, etc.

I did a 5 gallon water change on June 16th and since then my parameters have been good.

Today they were -
Nitrates - 2.5ppm
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Calcium 300ppm
kH - 8
Phosphates - 0

I get my replacement water from the LFS and the calcium is always low. Even after the water change it was only at 320ppm. I have some coraline algea, but it isn't growing very fast and it's bright green (does that matter?).

So now what? I'm thinking of adding some more live rock - I only have 30lbs of it - but I am wondering if that will wreck havoc. I don't have to have it, but it's a want.

Should I buy a fish or something? I'd like to have a ton of corals but not so many fish. What would you do?

SHould i flogg you more about the early stock addition or the use of LFS water or the early water change.

So you want coral or a reef tank. Then fish can be usefull as part of the CUC or some eye candy as your tank matures.

30 lbs in a 30 gallon is fine. Little more would be good but as you add coral you will add rock.

For best advice some info would help like ..
Tanks age?
All equipment used?
All readings you test for?
A pic would be great.

If I were you, I'd work on getting a CUC and add any additional LR rock you want before adding fish or corals. As for the LR, try getting some that is cured locally so it won't have die off from shipping and create another mini cycle. With regards to the low calcium levels, what brand of salt are you using and have you used any additives to raise your calcium and alkalinity levels? Most tanks run low in both alkalinity and calcium unless additives are used to keep their levels up.
