Default My first SW tank set-up process

I'm currently remodeling my basement. I have a 75gl tank recessed into the wall. On the otherside of the wall is a room that will be my office. This side it will appear to be a closet. All enclosed. I'm going to plum in a drain from the utility room as well as a water supply to help assist in changes. Also a 4 gang GFCI outlet for power. Below the reef tank I will have a 20 gal long for a sump tank. (hopefully it fits) May have to modify the supports to make more room since I didn't know about sump tanks.

My question; How many power heads should be involved in the proper operation of this system and where should I locate them?

Also, For the live rock and Live sand do I need lighting right away? Or can I set up everything else until I start to add the coral?

And one more while I'm here. What is a refugium (think i misspelled that sorry) and what does it do? Does it go into the sump tank?

You can use 2 powerheads in the tank something like koralia 3's one on each side. As for the lights no you dont need them during your cycling. But keep in mind and always think ahead on lighting. T5's or MH lights would be the best NO PC's. and heres a link on sumps verses refugiums. plus you can check out the second link to a site that has great information.

if you want to look into other pumps other than the Koralias theres another good one that i think is a" one time buy"

Ecotech Marine Vortech Propeller Powerhead/Pump

And

YouTube - EcoTech Marine VorTech Pump

but its a little expensive but it is worth it if someone can afford it.

and if you want it may be easyer to build your own sump ... look at these

YouTube - Reef Tank D.I.Y. Sump part 1

And

YouTube - Reef Tank D.I.Y. Sump part 2

and as for lighting you should be prepared before hand and yes you should look into the T5s and metal halides but i think you may need to get a chilller for the metal halides which is really expensive so maybe its best to go with the T5s But lighting only really matters if you plan on keeping Corals

Hope i helped
