Default FOWLR Fish Combo

I have a 75 gal FOWLR tank right now and I currently have a Royal Gram, an FP Clown, and two damsels and some red legged herm and snails. I'm Lookin to exanp the variety a little in my tank and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for compatible tank makes. Should i add more damsels or I was hoping for maybe a coral beauty or Tang of some sort? Any Definite NO's for new tank mates? I want to keep an easy to maintain tank cuz I stay pretty busy and I'm pretty new to salt water so nuthin tooo delicate. Any input would be a great help thanks!

no to the damsels in fact i would remove the ones you have before adding any more. damsels are very territorial and should be the last things added if you really want them. any dwarf angel like the coral beauty are awsome, also many types of hawkfish, the longnose is my personal favorite. dwarf puffers are very good additions if you don't have corals. i miss my valintini puffer. stay away from seahorses and pipefish, they need a dedicated only tank. dwarf lionfish don't get big enough to eat most of the tank mates you already have.

Default One more question

Any thoughts on adding a pair of FP clowns to my tank if I already have one? Also What about a clown goby and a coral beauty? I really just need to get 1 or 2 good fish and my tank will be complete!

Default Good Idea!

Engineer Goby's at least 2 they really are fun! not much to look at when they are young but they have a job to do. I have 3 in my 75 gallon with a coral beauty and various others!

I've recently faced a similar situation....here's what I did...from what I've learned this is as much of an art as it is a science....

After cycling with a shrimp from the grocery store..(there's a couple threads on here that talk about this) I started with some random $6 damsels just to double check my tank parameters...all went well except that those damsels were killers...I didn't put them all in at once and the initial 3 killled 6 more that I added in groups of three.

We decided to start from scratch and pulled out all of the "cycling" damsels and start from scratch....I'm getting long winded now so I'll pull it all together real quick.

Started with a tomato clown, a sebae clown and a green chromis damsel...after some posturing for a couple days the two seperate genus of clowns started to get along well. About 10 days later we added 3 more green chromis damsels. The green chromis have been very docile and school together nicely. Initially the sebae clown exerted dominance and the tomato just kinda hid out. But once we added the extra chromis' the five of them became a little "gang"...they all school together.

In my opinion the green chromis damsels dispel the rumor of bad damsels. They've been gentle in my tank and get along with my two clowns. They've all created a very happy environment (from my outside view) once the initial dominance was created.

IMHO green chromis damsels (they're really a blue color which is weird) are a GREAT bunch of schooling fish that get along real well with others...

I know I get winded some times, but I hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Mattie

You may be ok to add a pair of clowns of the same species, but watch for aggressiveness. A better option might be to add just one clown and let them establish a pair.

One of the dwarf angels, like a coral beauty, would be good in your tank. I also like sharp-nose puffers (valentini, hawaiian blue, etc), they are characters! As far as tangs, a yellow tang could be happy in your tank, just remember that tangs need a lot of algae to stay happy .

I would definitely not add more damsels, and I wouldn't even blame you if you got rid of the ones you have. I would also not get any large lions (volitans, radiata, antenaeta), but dwarfs would be suitable with caution (might get one of the damsels!).

If you're adding a coral beauty (or other dwark angel) be sure to add it last. They can get a bit aggressive to others that come in after they've been in the tank.
