Icon5 Live Sand or Live Mudd?

I would like to use Biological filtration in my sump design. I am thinking just of a sump filter (Not a refugium). This will be for a FOWLR 110 gal high thak with a 30 gallon sump. I have the equipment planned to have a flow of 1600 gallons per hour.(just with the input of the prefilter syphon skimmers and the return pumps. In the tank I pann on to two Koralia Water Pumps 440gph for addtional water flow in the tank.

I plan to bring the water in via the two prefilter overflow skimmers into the first chamber. This is also where my skimmer a corbon reactor and a phosphate reactor will be located. Then down through a baffle and up into a wall of live rock held in place by a 6 x 12 in chamber from the water line to the substrate under the live rock. it immediately folows over a 12" x 12" open area lined with substrate into a second baffle in to a third chamber where the return pumps are. then back to the tank.

All that haveing been said, "what type of substrate should I use for the filtation? Aggragete, Live Sand, Live Mudd, nothing?. Do I need clep or alge, or some other type of plant. Do I need lighting? if so how much to keep the live substrate, plants? and live rock alive, if any.

Remember this is for a FOWLR setup not a full reef setup.

I would sure apprecate some ideas form your own experience.

Thanks everone.
Danny

why dont you want a refugium? You would have much less to watch and check on with a fuge. Wet dry filters are nothing but trouble if you dont watch them very close.

Ok, a refugium si not out ot the question, but remember this is for a FOWLR tank, not a full reef tank. Which substrate, if any would be the best for this type of setup in the SUMP. Should I use the same for the Tank?

If I figure I have 140 gal total then I should have a minimum of 175 lbs of live rock. If I use Live Sand or Live Mud does that count as part of the Live Rock I should have in the overall tank and sump?

Seems like the more I read, I get more confused. Please help me come up with the right decision for a FOWLR tank.

Thanks
