Default Question about renewal of tank with LS

Wed, I am going to put my LR, snails, and hermits along with a heater and PH in a tub, then I am going to drain the rest of the water out of my tank, put in a live sandbed, and trash the CC . Can I scrub the brown algae off of my LR before I put it back into the tank? I can thank the lfs guy who sold me all of the sh#@ it did not need, and would not take any of it back:eek: My LR is also gowing some kind of plant, it sort of looks cool, with leaves and such. Will take a pic of my clean tank with the plants on my LR, when I get it going again. Was just curious about getting off the brown algae, I will scrub it while it is still in the water, in the tub. Thanks for your help Deb

Default Hi deb

a good rinse might be enough. you might be scrubing off some life that you may not know is there. Like say a sponge or mushroom and the like. Just a thought. sounds like you got some plant life going already and i would want to keep that.

Dont trask the CC. You never know when you might need something like that. I personally would use it to make my own live rock.

you can remove some of the c.c. but leave some and cover it with the l.s. your existing c.c. has a bio set-up so why start over establishing it.

Am emptying my tank of the CC, but will save some and put LS over it. My tank is so cloudy right now from the CC, need to clear the water before I can continue. Sure will be glad when all is done!!

Some animals (like sabae anenomes, starfish, etc) need a deep sand bed (4 inches)... and a shallow covering of sand may not be the best idea. If you cannot complete this with 100% LS, I would leave a section with CC from top to bottom so that a starfish, anenome and such won't get tricked into trying to burrow into the shallow layer of LS to find CC.

Just a thought

Well, I am done!!! Took all of the CC out, rinsed the tank, put an eggcrate down, aquascaped the LR, and back filled with LS. Just waiting for the water to clear. Will test and see if it is OK to return the nails and hermits. Bet they will like the sandbed. I ended up being about 2 inched deep. Will take pics at another date and post them. Sure was a lot of work to change from CC to LS!!!
