Welcome to RB. Tell us more. Do you have any mechanical or chemical filtration in the tank? How much rock and sand? Are you running your lights, if so what kind are they and how long are they on each day? Is there anything else in the tank besides water, rock and sand?

running a whisper 60 and protien skimmer. 40lbs of rock. 2 bags of sand cant remember the weight but it is about 2 inches on the bottom of the tank. lights are satalite dual 130 watts. they run about 8 hrs a day. i have a blood shrimp and an arrow crab to get all the bristle worms out of the rock. their were a ton of them in the rock.

Sounds like the rock was uncured. You would do well to take it out do a water change and scrub the rock with the water you took out of the tank. Then rinse it off in some new mixed water. This will get the detritus off the rock work and help to get some of the nutrient out of the tank.

the time frame is what it is and is directly related to your chemistry in the tank. If you could post that it would also help us. Also when or is you scrub your rock use gloves, you do not want the bristles from the worms in your hand.
