So I stare at this thing hours on end, last night a greyish/bluish worm 2in long shoots out of some live rock quickly becoming cardinal food, aaghghhg is saltwater fun, i'm hooked..

I couldent even really let this tank cycle, too excited, I do a 5 gal water change ever few days for now...

1 blue damsel, 2 clowns (hate each other, my 1st mistake), 1 cardinal, 1 flamehawk.

Default thks..

Yes the Hawkfish is so cool, has the personality of a puffer but acts almost like a underwater bird, so cool...

Lighting!!!My big concern right now and my major area of focus/research, My tank has the built in bio wheel filter in the lid so now i'm using the stock issue PowerCompact with 40watts of power,

I'm trying to find a way to supplement or replace the existing lighting unit, but keep the lid..

i would love to get over 100 watts but I'm having a difficultt time finding a easy retro fit for my needs, My lid is called the elipse filter 3 system.

This is really bothering me, as I want to get this done asap for the health of my invert (seems fine so far) not to mention I'm just not happy with the overall glow my tank emits with the lights on..

thanks guys, hooked for life..

Watch out with that Bio-wheel. It can become a nitrate sink.

Using live rock and a deep sandbed will help eliminate nitrates. I've heard a lot of people saying wet/dry filters and sponges (not the living kind) become sources for bacteria producing to much nitrates.
Just something to keep in mind.

Personally I wouldn't blindly do water changes, you'll end up prlonging the cycle. Test, and when levels are getting a little high, thern change some water. You're kind of in a tough spot now because you already have fish in there, don't want to over stress them. But by doing small changes every few days, you could end up causing the cycle to last several months.
