I have the LR lying on the sand. Is this bad for biological filtration? I read a post where everyone recommends rock first and then sand. I don't have any gobies, so there is nothing in the tank that could knock it over. Should I try to move the sand and try to put the rock on the botton?

I had mine sitting on the sand at first also. I took everyones advice and moved the sand and put the rock on the glass then kind of back filled the sand around the rocks. I just never know what fish I will be adding in the futare and don't want to have any worries about rock falling and stuff. So, like I said I moved mine.

I cut short pieces of 1"pvc pipe as long as my sand bed was deep, and used those to keep my lace rock off the bottom of the tank and off the sand. That way I don't loose an inch or so of the rock under the sand so water can still flow through the pores of the whole rock.

You're better off putting the rockl in first - like Raymond says - you never know what fish you'll end up getting. Better to be safe than sorry.
